Home appliances are an important part of our everyday lives, but they are often ignored until a problem develops. While your first sense is to call a repair specialist when your GE appliance breakdown, there may be some way you can solve the problem yourself. Here are some of the most common complaints our customers experienced with their GE appliances and how you can solve them.
If your GE ice maker not producing any ice, you can do a few things before calling for service.
The ice maker will not produce ice if the freezer temperature is higher than 15ºF. Check the freezer temperature settings. The recommended freezer temperature setting is 0ºF. If the freezer is too warm, ice cubes will take longer to form or may not form at all.
Do not overpack your freezer. A low food load in the freezer can affect the production of ice. A good amount of food in the freezer allows temperatures to remain more stable.
A clogged water filter can reduce water flow to the icemaker. You should change the water filter every six months.
If your GE refrigerator is running but not cooling enough, several factors may affect the temperature problems.
Make sure to adjust the temperature settings: freezer on 0ºF and refrigerator on 37ºF.
Make sure that both the refrigerator and freezer hold a fair amount of food. Closed containers such as water bottles, food containers, or non-perishables will help stabilize the temperature because the items in the refrigerator absorb the cold and help maintain a steady temperature. Whenever you open the refrigerator door, the cool air leaks out, and warm air rushes in. The more items you have in the refrigerator, it needs less cool air to keep food cold. So, when you close the door, the refrigerator returns to a steady temperature more quickly.
Make sure refrigerator and freezer doors are closing properly, and the door gaskets are sealing correctly. Check for the large food items that could be blocking the door from the inside. Try to rearrange your food items on the shelvings.
Check for the large food containers that might be blocking the air vent. Restricting the air circulation will cause temperature problems.
Ensure the refrigerator is installed in the area where the temperature is between 60°F and 110°F with a proper air clearance.
If you still have a situation where the fridge is not cooling enough, you may need to schedule service.
When your GE dishwasher is not draining, you will see water in the bottom of the tub at the end of the cycle.
Keep the drain-sump filter clean of food and debris. A dirty drain filter will block the water flow, and the dishwasher will wash dishes with contaminated water.
Make sure the air gap is clear of food particles. Plugged air-gap will block water drainage.
If you recently installed a new garbage disposer, remove the drain plug inside the disposer to allow water drainage from the dishwasher.
Always run your garbage disposer before running the dishwasher to clean any food or debris out of the drain system.
We all realize how important it is to have a working GE microwave in our everyday lives when one stops working. There are few simple things you can do to troubleshoot your GE microwave before calling for service.
When you open the microwave door, make sure the interior light comes on. If the interior light is not working, and the display is off in most cases, that means blown internal thermal fuse. Of course, not working interior light might be due to a defective light bulb.
Make sure the door is closed securely. Close it tight, but do not slam. Sometimes, a misaligned door will not activate the door switch, and the microwave will fail to operate.
For safety reasons, we do not recommend DYS repair on microwave ovens due to the presence of the high-voltage system. If the above recommendations do not resolve the problem and the microwave still not working, we recommend contacting the service.
If your dryer makes unusual noises, takes too long to dry, or does not heat, call MD Appliance LLC for a quick and easy fix. You can also do some simple troubleshooting on your own before calling for service.
Make sure the dryer is plugged in entirely into the wall outlet.
Check the circuit breaker.
Ensure to select the cycle appropriate to the size and type of load.
Make sure the dryer door is closing tightly.
Check the door switch. If the dryer door switch is broken or stuck, the dryer will not start or stop running.
